Pheonix Restaurant

After my trip from Hong Kong, I missed eating all the good food there so I was set on finding something similar that would bring back those delicious memories. And what better to place to look for a Hong Kong style restaurant than Toronto?

Modern Toilet

During my trip to Hong Kong I knew I had to try the food there especially since that city never sleeps. You can find someone eating at every single hour of day. After hearing about the various themed restaurants, I had to try at least one of them.

What’s Pho Dinner?

Since the last time I’ve been to Pho 88 in Chinatown, they’ve done some renovating and now it’s much more modern looking. The interior is what you’ll find at most trendy places—contemporary atmosphere, dark wooden panels and minimalistic decor, accented with some bright lighting gave it a very sophisticated feel to it.

Keep on Truckin’

While food trucks have been trending lately especially with the show Eat St. on the Food Network. It was quite exciting to have them come to Toronto. Special thanks goes to Suresh Doss, a food writer and founder of lifestyle mag, Spotlight Toronto and the brainchild for bringing this event to Toronto. After missing the first one in July, I was sure to not miss the second instalment in August.

When you think of food trucks and street food, you would probably think of hot dogs, ice cream and fries. But the ones who attended this event were not your run-of-the-mill vendors, oh no, these were gourmet food trucks in and around Toronto. The best part was that everything was $5 or less!

Similarly to the first event, their second Food Trucks Eats was located in the Distillery District in downtown Toronto. The weather was gorgeous and the architect of the location was very well preserved, considering it was operating since the 1800s!

Having my day planned out, from which vendors and trucks to visit to where they were parked in the Distillery District, my friends and I were prepared to eat as much as we could that day.

Mmm so Guu’d!

In the hustle and bustle of downtown Toronto, you will find a Japanese fusion restaurant like no other. The chain of Guu restaurants have expanded from Vancouver, adding their own footprint in Toronto. Guu SakaBar opened earlier this year in the Annex (Bloor and Bathurst), adding a second Guu to the city, the first one being Guu Izakaya located just steps away from Ryerson University. It’s hard to imagine that this used to be a Burger King. For those who want to try Japanese fusion be aware that these restaurants are infamous for their no reservation policy, and where two-hour wait times for a table is the norm.
